The company Rex Articoli Tecnici SA was founded in 1935 by engineer Ignazio Favini. From the very beginning, Rex was characterised by its production of chemical products, in particular adhesives for the shoe industry. In the 1950s, with the introduction of elastomer-based adhesives to the market, REX also began manufacturing rubber compounds. Subsequently, REX developed compounds for direct vulcanisation onto the upper leather and also specialised in the manufacture of moulded rubber soles. This made Rex the market leader in this sector.
